Things definitely are changing, the energy is shifting. Keridwen stirs Her cauldron, turns the world around us topsy-turvy and reality as we know it is being rearranged.
My lovely fiancé and I are on a very wild ride of emotions as we prepare our wedding and I love it - I love the way Keridwen mercilessly drags up all the old wounding I didn't know I still carried. On the Wheel of Avalon She sits opposite of Rhiannon, who holds the mirror, and at this time of the year Keridwen really holds the mirror for me, asking me: "Look. You still hold on to this fear and to that wounding. You don't really feel that way and believe those things about you anymore and still you hold. Do you really want to carry this into your marriage? Release it NOW!"
Keridwen is the great Changer, She transforms everything. Here in the Rhine Valley Matrona holds that same energy. All that dies returns to Her womb to be transformed and to be reborn. We can give all that which we no longer need, which no longer serves us, to Her. Yesterday evening I facilitated a ceremony in honour of the Crone Goddess to flow with the Samhain energy, to honour the Ancestors and to celebrate the beginning of the new Celtic year. It was such a joy to serve the Lady in this way and to share this sacred work with the brave women who joined me despite the cold!
We met at the temple at Nettersheim which lies beautifully on top of a hill overlooking fields and meadows. There were patches of snow in the grass and dusk was beginning. The moon was beautiful , nearly full and silently witnessing our rite.
We took some time to walk around and connect to the place, leave some offerings at Matrona's altar and say a prayer. I prepared everything I needed for the ceremony and got ready. Then we smudged each other and called in Keridwen and Matrona and sang Matrona's song. It was very very cold, and the wind crept into our bones. Our youngest Maiden was wrapped up in layers of blankets and still looked windswept and frozen... We lit candles and remembered our ancestors, and gave them our blessings on their journey home to the Source. We sang to them to help them on their passing.
Then we remembered the year that has passed and looked at where we are in our lives right now. We held dried roses in our hands and charged them up with all we wanted to let go. Then we crumbled them into dust in our fists and let the wind carry the dry powder away. It was very liberating and uplifting to watch the bits being blown away and scattered over the land. After that we walked the land in silence seeking a vision for the coming year. It was very powerful. Underneath the silence of the night the Land as humming softly deep within, potent with all the magic of the Lady, the power of the land and the mystery of the cycles of life. I watched the light fade - silhouettes of trees in the distance that had already lost all their leaves looked so fine against an orange sky that quickly became black. The stars came out and the Moon poured out her silver light and I felt the Lady's truth in my heart and in my being and I knew that I was going to be safe in the new year when I set out to realise my dreams.
We finished the ceremony with our thanks to Keridwen and Matrona for being present with us and a Circle Dance in honour of the Crone - and to warm up. We had a good laugh, singing and dancing and moving like Crones underneath the full moon.
It was too cold to share some food after the ceremony - our feet were like blocks and ice and everybody just wanted to get back into the cars and go home. But we did share some hot tea before that and it was lovely to spend another moment together as sisters after the ceremony.
I love this work. I just can't begin to tell you all how much I love serving the Goddess in this way. May She bless you all at Samhain and bring us all to our true power in the coming year, and shower us with joyous moments xxxxx
